Músaem Condae Dhún na nGall / Donegal County Museum

Donegal County Museum at High Road, Letterkenny was opened in 1987. The building once formed part of the town's Workhouse which was established for the relief of the poor duing the Great Famine of 1845-1850.
The Museum received European funding in 1989 and the completed Museum project was officially opened by President Mary Robinson, on June 14th, 1992. The museum's function is to collect, preserve, record and display the material history of the County. The museum has over 8,000 artefacts dating from the prehistoric times to the present century. The Museum has two exhibition spaces, a conservation workshop, stores and administrative offices. The permanent display is housed in the Upper Gallery of the Museum while temporary exhibitions are housed on the ground floor. The County Museum Service monitors the welfare of the archaeological and historical sites and heritage development in the County. The Museum also has an educational role as many of the exhibits are in the school curricula. The Museum is open from Monday - Friday 10am - 4.30pm and Saturday 1 - 4.30pm.

Fosclaíodh Músaem Dhún na nGall ar an Bhóthar Árd i Leitir Ceanainn i 1987. Bráth leis an foirgneamh bheith ina cheardlann oibre agus cuireadh seo ar bun le faoiseamh a thabhairt dó na bochta i rith an Ghórta Mhór idir 1845-1850. I 1989 fuair an músaem ciste airgead ón Euroip agus nuair a críochníodh an tionscanamh d'oscail an t-Uachtaran Máire Níc Roibín an músaem go h-oifigiúil ar an 14ú lá de mhí Mheitheamh, 1992.
An t-aidhm atá ag an mhúsaem nó ábhair stáire ag baint le Co. Dhún na nGall a chruinniú, a chaomhnú, a thaifeadadh agus é a thaispeáint don phobal. Tá suas le 8,000 déantán sa mhúsaem agus téann siad ón aois a bhfuil muid ann inniu arais go h-ám an réamhstáir. Tá dhá spás taispeántais ag an mhúsaem, ceardlann caomhnú, seomra stórala agus oifigí riaracháin. Tá an taispeántas seasta shuas ar an áilear os cionn an mhúsaem agus cuirtear na taispeántais sealadach ar urlár na talún.
Coinnaíonn an County Museum Service súil ghéar ar shochar ná suíoimh, an seandála agus an stáir agus fósta an dul chun cinn a dheanann an dúchais sa chondae. Tá róla oideachais ag an mhúsaem chomh maith mar go bhfuil cuid mhór de na léirithe ar an curaclam scoile. Tá an músaem foscailte ó Mháirt go Sathairn ón 11.00 ar maidin go 4.30 sa tráthnóna.
