Current Exhibitions in County Donegal Donegal artist Paul Rooney has spent the last number of years documenting the physical and social changes in the fabric of the county. His exhibition 'Reflections in 4 Lights', brings together selections of these works in a specially commissioned show, running from July 4th to September 26th at the Foyer Gallery of the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny. The exhibition is free and the exhibition is open 11am - 5pm (Tuesday to Friday) and 1pm - 5pm (Saturdays). Cavanacor Gallery is exhibiting new works by Neil Shawcross, Michael Cullen, Geraldine O'Neill and Mary O'Kelly among others. The exhibition continues from June 27th until August 30th, Tuesday to Saturday from 12.00 to 6.00pm. From July 6th to August 29th there is an exhibition of Eileen Gray's Maquettes in the County Museum, Letterkenny. Eileen Gray (1878-1976) is regarded as one of the most important furniture designers and architects of the early 20th century. Her work inspired both modernism and Art Deco. A chair designed by Gray was recently sold for €22m at the Yves Saint Laurent auction in Paris, the most ever paid for a work of 20th Century design. The exhibition is free and is open from 10am – 4.30pm (Monday to Friday) and 1pm – 4.30pm (Saturday). Abstract works by Mainie Jellet and Evie Hone will be on view at the Glebe Gallery, Church Hill from July 3rd to September 26th. The exhibition is open daily from 11.00am - 6.30pm and admission is free. Mainie Jellett (1897-1944) and Evie Hone (1894–1955) are pivotal figures in Irish Art. Both talented, they studied in London and later in Paris, and returned to Ireland after 1921 bringing a truly Modernist artistic sensibility to Ireland for the first time. In association with the Vintage Galéria, Budapest the Glebe Gallery presents an exhibition of his György Kepes photographs from July 3rd to September 26th. György Kepes (1906–2002) is considered as one of the greatest pioneers in the marriage of art and technology. Born in Selyp, Hungary, he was educated at the Budapest Royal Academy of Fine Arts. From 1930 - 1937 he collaborated with László Moholy-Nagy, and in 1937, he was invited by Moholy-Nagy to run the Colour & Light Department at the New Bauhaus (and later at the Institute of Design in Chicago). He taught at the MIT from 1946 -1974 and in 1967 he established the Center for Advanced Visual Studies. For information telephone +353 (0)74 91 37071. Letterkenny has a new art gallery on main street. The Conrad Gallery deals in oil paintings, watercolurs, drawings and sculptures by established local artists. Inishowen Artists have launched a new website to inform the public of various events and exhibitions in the Peninsula. Dunlewy based artist Sarah Lewtas studied painting at St Martins during the nineteen seventies but today she works across genres, often with natural, found materials and has exhibited widely in recent years. Sharon McDaid, Textile Artist and Designer, exhibits her work at Donagh Design on the Malin Road, Carndonagh is open all year round. Sharon specialises in mixed media works and hand printed accessories in silks and velvets inspired by Celtic mythology. ![]() Melnik by Anne Quinn, currently showing at the RHA Ashford Gallery, Dublin The Glebe House And Gallery, Churchill is a Regency house set in woodland gardens beside Lake Gartan. The Glebe is decorated with William Morris Wallpaper and textiles and has Islamic and Japanese art. The Derek Hill permanent collection includes 300 works by leading 20th century artists, including Picasso and Kokosha, as well as Irish and Italian artists. Exhibitions are shown in the adjoining gallery. Access to the house is by guided tour only. There is access to the ground floor of the Gallery for people with disabilities. There are tearooms on this level. Guide dogs permitted. Parking 200 meters from Gallery. Videos in English relating to the house are shown in the coffee shop. The Ardara Heritage Centre contains an Art Gallery and Craft exhibition space and is open Monday to Friday. Donegal's Public Art - A new website devoted to public artworks in Donegal has been launched. Donegal County Council’s Public Art Programme has been active since 1990 and to date over forty commissions have been awarded and delivered in the capital construction of Roads, Housing, Water, Environment & Emergency Services, Libraries and Fire stations.
